RUTHERFORD ("Ruddy") DAY
AND STEVE OLMORE: BOBCAT PROPERTIES INC // S. D. OLMORE & ASSOC., INC. (SDO&ASC) -
SIMULTANEOUS BOARD MEETINGS - AT TROPICAL ACRES, FORT LAUDERDALE
Rutherford Day was
a MENTOR, ASSOCIATE, AND DIRECTOR of SDO&ASC FOR 20 YEARS - he passed away in June of 2016; during Ruddy's
tenure he made fundamental contributions to SDO&ASC. He developed and owned several gold and
mining properties with internal financing of Bobcat Properties, Inc. In the Western U.S. Ruddy mined, milled, and refined
100,000 ounces of gold and extracted 1,000,000 ounces of silver from the ATLANTA, NEVADA Open-Pit Mine between 1972 and
1985 (See image above); this was Ruddy's core asset***. Previous to his 30-year mining career he had a 20+ YEAR General
Law practice in Washington, D.C., and Virginia that handled a broad variety of litigations most all inside Washington's
Beltway. His home town was Washington and his family was involved with the Washington Post and in the Government Beauracracy,
which helped them survive the Great Depression. He was priviledged to grow up near Logan Circle, attended the prestigious
Sidwell Friends School during the depression, graduated from Central HIgh School at 16 in 1940, attended American University,
and soon afterward transferred to Harvard College to complete an A.B. in Government and Economics. Upon graduating
things he entered the army and things became bloody as he participated in harm's way action in the Pacific Theatre during
WWII. Ruddy conducted many advance reconnaissance missions with Army intelligence as a Cryptographer and scout in
New Guinea and the Solomon Islands; "there's a lot of gold [placer] there" was his laconic statement (not known
to repeat himself) in reference to the eastern end of New Guinea. Following the War he studied and received LLB
and JD degrees at Georgetown and George Washington Universities respectively then entered the JAG Corps and served in
Marines, Airforce, and Army during the Korean War. Licensed to practice law in the several jurisdictions including District
of Columbia, he rose to a Major in the airforce and active in Reserve and active in Vetrans issues. His
private practice and qualifications led him to an unsuccessful run for State Representative, in Arlington as a Republican
and unsurprisingly lost. His studies, service in three Armed Forces, and intimate knowledge of the Nation's
Capital gave him insight and contacts in Washington and direct information on the future economic
course of the Nation; $35/ounce gold was frozen by the Roosevelt Administration during the Depression; it essentially
off-bounds through five presidencies; it was prohibited from mining in the U.S. during WWII. The 40-year U.S. government
price control was ended by President Nixon in august of 1971. Gold was allowed to adjust in US$ to its true value and price
to pay Sovereign debts; the public was allowed to own substantial quantities of gold - previously it was restricted to small
amounts of placer. Ruddy parlayed his economic knowledge into several successful mine acquisitions in the Western U.S.
As a lawyer-economist "Ruddy," was a relentless "Goldbug," with an encyclopedic knowledge
and a large collection of information on gold. He viewed "faith-based" currency printed
by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing that is now sent "out the door," in truckloads to Federal Reserve Banks
(and elsewhere) as specious. He had maintained that Fort Knox required an audit and may have been significantly depleated.
view to a gold or physical, intrinsic, backing for the US$ would be by central bankers and economists such as Paul Krugman,
who believe that in reality US$ is valued by the political stability and World leadership of the U.S. We at
SDO&ASC agree with the political backing concept as applied to nations and central bankers; on an individual
basis, we believe it is advisable to hold gold as a tangible asset as a backup and protection.
*** Steve Olmore has been in close association with the Atlanta mine and with an eye on the Atlanta for more
than 50 years. Following geology studies at the University of Southern California the Atlanta was considered
as a subject for a Master's thesis at the University of Utah. However Steve Olmore's prior experience with structural
and field studies at the University of Southern California were the overriding interest and were pursued instead; however, Nevada fieldwork with AMAX Exploration and Harry Olson, Ph.D. a mining geologist
in Nevada in 1968 and later explorations with Bear Creek Mining Company with Al Young in 1971 set the course of applied
geologic investigations. Later with with Homestake Mining Company in 1985 Atlanta came up during drilling investigations
at the nearby Chief Mining district, and invesetigations at Delamar and Pioche. These studies enhanced knowledge of Atlanta
considerably. Later, the subject of the Atlanta came to SDO's attention from an American mining engineer directly associated
with Iron Ore exploration and Sucre Figurela of Corporacion Venezuela de Guayana in Venezuela, who urged me to contact
Rutherford Day in 1993-1994; SDO&ASC then took the property to Echo Bay Mines (now Kinross Gold) for development, with
whom he had a contract; a significant finder's fee was received by SDO&ASC for that effort, which started the association
between Day and Olmore that lasted until his death in June of 2016.
